Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Businesses

An Introduction to Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Businesses:

Everyone is busy in this digital world, and AI is utilized by almost everyone. There are many technologies used by people to lessen their workload. One of them is using technology like Natural Language processing, also known as NLP in the shorter term. Now the main question arises that what is natural language processing, and how is it helping business owners in their businesses?

Let us first focus on what is Natural Language Processing?

Natural Language Processing:

Natural Language Processing is basically a subset of AI. Now, we know that AI works on the basis of human intelligence. Similarly, the Natural Language Processing task is to understand and interpret human language, whether given in spoken form or in written form, to a machine. Any language-related written or spoken form is worked under NLP. It performs tasks on the basis of human language, which lies under human intelligence.

For instance, when you are typing some sentences on your phone and your keyboard automatically suggests you next word, this is what NLP is doing at that moment. NLP is suggesting you words and phrases while typing at the moment to help you in generating a sentence in less time. It basically helps you with better wording and effective sentences.

Now, we are familiar with the idea of what NLP is. Now, let us shed light on its process. Let us see how NLP actually works.

NLP basically understands, interprets and generates human language. We all know that every language has different parts of language, specific structures and lexical systems through which a sentence is generated. So, by the help of this technology, all these parts and structures are first trained by a machine. The machine understands specific rules and structures of any language which is to be guided. Then, according to the need, these machines interpret the specific commands and then generate responses in human language.

For instance, I set my mobile’s language to English. It means that now my mobile is going to show me everything in English. Now if I ask Siri about the weather forecast, Siri will reply to me in English and will communicate with me in English. Siri will communicate in proper English without any grammatical or syntax mistakes in sentences.

In this process, I asked Siri in English to tell me about the weather. My command is in the English language. Siri will understand the given command and then interpret this command. After interpreting, Siri will reply to me in English. So this is how Natural Language Processing technology works. First, it will understand, then it will interpret the language, and at the last it will generate the answer in human language. Even if I ask Siri to guide me about the weather in German language, Siri will guide me in the German language without any mistakes.

Now, we know the working of Natural Language Processing. Now let us discuss how and where it is used. We will also see how this NLP technology helps business owners in their businesses.

    1. Translation:
Platforms like Google translation and others help to provide different types of translation of many languages.
  • Chat bots:

Chatbots on business websites help to communicate with people. In the process, a chatbot is involved in answering the questions instead of a human. Chatbots talk in human language.

  1. Virtual Assistants:
Virtual Assistants like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant also use the NLP technology to generate sentences, whether spoken or written.
  2. Keyboards:
While texting, the keyboard recommends you words. That is because it also works on NLP technology. It can predict the sentence because it has an ability to understand the language.

These are the general uses of Natural language Processers. Now let us dig into the business world. NLP technology has a huge advantage in businesses. Business owners can actually make it a component to use in order to make their life easier.

Uses of NLP in business:

  1. Sentimental Analysis:

Sentimental analysis is basically analyzing sentiment through any language. It can be used to review a brand’s product review, analysis of customer’s feedback and can help in researching the market.

For instance, if a person leaves a review with the words like terrible product or bad product, then it is analyzed as negative feedback. Similarly, if a person leaves a comment in which he is praising the product, then those certain words will be considered as a positive review. NLP technologies are trained this way so that they are able to detect human sentiments of any language through certain processes. It can help business owners to gather product reviews and customer feedback of customers easily and rapidly with less time consumption.

  1. Chat bots:

If a business owner uses chatbots as part of their business, then it is really beneficial for them. As they don’t have to hire extra employees for this.

For instance, if you are visiting any website and like any item but just add it into the cart, then chat will keep on reminding you about that product again and again.

Many food businesses and product-selling businesses use chatbots to confirm orders.

Other than that, chat bot can have a chit-chat like humans too. So if they are asked about any product or issue, they respond as a human in no time. It can also increase the brand’s sales because of a good impression.

    1. Language Translation:

As NLP technologies can also translate different languages. It can be used by business owners for more diversity.
  • Documentations:

NLP technologies can help to summarise long documents in a shorter form. They can also use simple wording for better clarification. These technologies can also help to classify feedback into portions as much as needed. Some technologies can help generate images into PDFs.

These are the main uses of Natural Language Processing in business fields. Business owners can manage their work through machines.

We can see that people who are making use of these technologies more in their business are more successful, as this world is more focused on the digital arena rather than the physical one. So it is helping business owners side by side.
